History

The Management Institution of the National Park of Dadia – Lefkimi – Soufli Forest was enacted in 1999 by the Law 2742/1999 and it was founded in 2003 as part of the network of Institutions of Protected Regions’ Management that was created by the Greek government, in order to harmonise the Greek legislation with the international and European regulations.

He is Legal Person of Private Right of character beneficial to the public, it takes place under the monitoring of Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climatic Change (former M.E.E.C.C.) and has its base in the Information Centre in Dadia. It is managed by nine-people Administrative Council which is fixed by the M.E.E.C.C. and has three years service, which can be extended with political decision of M.E.E.C.C..

The Management Institution began its functions substantially in April 2005, with financing from the O.P.E., which lasted until 2009, while from 2010 until it is today continued with financing by the O.P.E.S.D. (Operational Program Environment and Sustainable Development).

The main aims of Management Institution are the protection, the management and the prominence of the National Park of Dadia – Lefkimi – Soufli Forest, which are achieved via actions such as the scientific monitoring of biodiversity elements (species of fauna, flora and other precious elements of region), supervision – guarding of protected region, the briefing of region’s users and visitors, as well as the implementation of events and programs of environmental education. It carries out coordinative role in the activities of local responsible institutions that are related to the protection, management and tourist appointment of National Park.
